It was just a few days ago (Nov. 6th) that I titled my post “Great Expectationsâ€â€“beating The Economist magazine to it! (That’s the cover of the current issue, pictured above.) The point of my Great Expectations post was that...
I’ve written so much on this topic over the past few weeks, but I’ll say it again: fiscal responsibility is a much broader concept than having a goal of a balanced budget.
Yesterday the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) director, Peter Orszag, testified before the House Budget Committee on the “Federal Responses to Market Turmoil,†focusing on the Treasury proposal for a $700 billion rescue plan.
Yesterday’s Washington Post contained an interesting “Department of Human Behavior†column by Shankar Vedantam, called “When Play Becomes Work.â€
I have mentioned the movie I.O.U.S.A. before here on this blog, starting with my “about†page in discussing the new and improved (almost totally hip?) Concord Coalition, and then again in mid-June when the movie was shown at a DC-area film...
On e21, Donald Marron writes about a recent IMF analysis that compares the budget deficits of 22 advanced countries. Donald explains how the U.S.’s budget outlook might look quite grim, but we’re still not as badly off as Japan, the U.K., Ireland,...
I’m in New York City today for the Concord Coalition’s annual fundraising dinner that’s tonight. When I come to NYC I come fully prepared to face higher prices than I normally have to pay back in the DC area. But I’m “lucking” into collecting a lot...
CQ’s Richard Rubin writes in this week’s CQ magazine (as part of the cover story on “Health Care’s Taxing Questions”–here’s link to a LexisNexis reprint) that the current Congress has little experience surviving voting for tax increases, because so few...
Saturday Night Live’s Jason Sudeikis is hilarious as VP Joe Biden, taking over for President Obama in the Oval Office while the President’s out of the country, talking about “just” three issues: Afghanistan, the economy, and health care reform. The...
I’m just back from Denver, where in the opening session on “Dealing with the Fiscal Outlook” of the National Tax Association annual conference, I had been tasked with discussing the “political economy” of the problem. I started by saying I didn’t...
Outstanding blog. "Must read" information and commentary for anyone concerned about America's long-term fiscal imbalance...which should be everyone. EconomistMom cuts through all the political spin from partisans of both right and left, AND makes the relevant economic concepts understandable to non-economists.
Fantastic blog, with sources cited and links to articles. Great analysis, but presented in lay terms. Good for the beginning and practicing Economoist.
Disappointing lack of economic rigor. If you're looking for a mom's scatterbrain thoughts on politics this is the blog for you. If you're looking for good economic analysis of economic issues, look elsewhere.
