Furious Seasons

When I began this blog in September 2005, I had no idea what I was doing. In some ways, I still don't. But the basic idea is that I am tossing some ideas at the universe. If you like them, cool. If you don't, fine. I am concerned about the state of mental health care in America and elsewhere. We simply are not getting the kind of results that patients, myself included, were promised 20 years ago at the dawn of the psychopharmacological revolution. Yet that's not what you'll read in the American...

President Obama's Poor Salesmanship of Health Care Reform

Jun 16, 2009
As much as I am not a fan of President Barack Obama--I'm kind of neutral on him so far--I've long been impressed by his salesmanship of ideas and programs, even where I sharply disagree with him. The President can literally sell snow to the E...

Rebecca Riley's Mother: Guilty Of Murder

Feb 9, 2010
I wouldn't know what to add to this news: "BROCKTON – A South Shore mother was found guilty today of second-degree murder in the death of her 4-year-old daughter who never woke up one night in December 2006 after ingesting toxic levels of...

This alarming bit of news hit yesterday: "Women who took GlaxoSmithKline's Paxil while taking tamoxifen at the same time were more likely to die of their breast cancer, the researchers found. The longer the overlap between Paxil and tamoxifen, the...

One Thing Conservatives Are Right About

Feb 5, 2010
I apologize for being silent for a couple of days on here, but I've been working 12 to 14 hour days--weekends included--since early January and my brain has turned to mush. Why so much work? Let's just say that over the last few weeks I've developed a...

What's The Point Of Articles Like This?

Feb 2, 2010
There's an OK-ish piece in the New York Times today, penned by a psych nurse in Portland, Ore. It concerns a young woman admitted to a psych unit in that city--without name and history--and the nurse writing about her progress and such. The article...

I think that aside from providing a largely even-handed, alternative perspective on a subject matter that others will not touch out of fear (with good reason: the interests represented by the current mental health paradigm, principally psychiatry and psychopharmacology, neither of which "work" in any real sense, are regarded as powerful and aggressive), Philip's blog is important in that it provides a lightning rod for those who have experienced the aforementioned paradigm, firsthand. When one realizes that one's own story bears a striking resemblance to others, one feels less isolated. Indeed, allowing others to realize that a "cure," to the extent that they need curing, is in their own hands, is very important, I think. Of course, finding a forum to achieve this is the toughest part.

This is the blog of a serious and ethical journalist that gave up working for the mainstream media to dedicate his life and career to raise awareness of the harms psych-drugs are causing. This is an issue important not only for people with mental disease since these dangerous drugs are being prescribed even for headache. It should be at the top, number one blog, if any integrity was left in this world. A dignified and highly informed man Philip Dawdy is. He has witnessed what these drugs are doing and has made a laboratory disclose some material that proves that their drug is harmful. He is doing the work that the mainstream media can't because they are not unbiased. hank you Philip Dawdy! I'm sure you have helped some people more than some physicians.

Furious Seasons is one of the most popular mental health blogs around. Author Philip Dawdy provides investigative information regarding mental health news, mental health treatment, and pharmaceutical company activities (especially regarding psychotropic medication). He is best known for his work surrounding Eli Lilly's Zyprexa documents that show the company encouraged off-label usage and didn't properly advise doctors of the side effects. Furious Seasons is a must-read blog for anyone involved in the mental health community and pharmaceutical industry.
