Claude Lévi-Strauss: à la prochaine fois

Nov 3, 2009
Almost one year ago we celebrated the remarkable 100th birthday of Claude Lévi-Strauss. Today we learn that his body has died. In the meantime, we continue to work with what he has left us, as can be seen in the latest posts on this blog concerning...

0.189: Stanley Diamond & Claude Lévi-Strauss on the Nature and Future of Anthropology

Oct 30, 2009
Two relatively short articles from the 1960s that I found useful, especially in connection with the previous post, provide a number of insights that exceeded the scope of that post. I want to share some of my “notes and quotes” from those two articles,...

Unfortunately, the truly "blatantly biased and ignorant" seem to be such perfectly accomplished dupes that they are unaware of torture at Abu Ghraib, and "shock and awe" aerial bombardment tactics in civilian areas that killed scores of civilians each time, the many killings of civilians at checkpoints, the admitted war crimes featured in Winter Soldier by returning vets, and countless other reports, let alone massacres by Blackwater mercs. As for Iraqis welcoming those atrocities, that was the stupidest and most ignorant comment imaginable: from the very start, to the present, the vast majority of Iraqis polled, and in the legislature, have consistently demanded the immediate withdrawal of U.S. forces precisely because they were a threat to their security, and they were explicit about.

Here is an excellent example of Maximilian Forte’s blatantly biased and ignorant opinions: "Otherwise, the question of plagiarism is not scandalous in comparison with the real atrocities committed by the US military in places such as Iraq." The only information Forte has about the “atrocities” committed by the US military is the information portrayed by the biased media. Has he actually gone to Iraq? I believe soldiers involved in Civil Affairs would know more than Mr. Forte. These soldiers are the ones who work with the citizens of Afghanistan and Iraq and help rebuild the country. If you compare “the Iraq” controlled by Saddam, and “the Iraq” helped by these soldiers, you will find that the majority of the Iraqi citizens welcome these “atrocities” committed by our force
