Past Elder

I'd have called this blog Also Sprach der Vorsteher, except I'm not an elder now or even in the same synod. I'm an LCMS layman with a quia subscription to The Book of Concord. If we are not confessional, we ignore all of what it is to be missional. The mission is to spread the confession. If we are not doing that, we are not sent, by Him anyway. And, if we are not missional, we ignore part of what it is to be confessional. MT 28:16-20.

26 November 1997 / 2009.

Thanksgiving 2009.

Nov 14, 2009
As a counterpart to my post on what became of Sukkot as the Christian liturgical calendar emerged out of the Jewish one, here's a little something on the secular Sukkot here in the US called Thanksgiving. Turns out, there were two "first"...

What's An Armistice? Veterans Day / St Martin's Day 2009.

Nov 2, 2009
Here is what the world knows, I hope. 11 November was originally Armistice Day, from the armistice that ended hostilities in the First World War on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, GMT (or UTC), in 1918. Later, with another and even...

Is Having Bishops A Problem?

Oct 23, 2009
Here's something, regarding the position that our problems in the LCMS derive from, or continue because of, the lack of a correct polity. On the Beeb (the BBC) I see a story reporting that The Church of Sweden, a Lutheran body, will starting November...
