As for rewiring, I was able to reverse without rewiring at all. Thing is, the wires to the switch are not long enough to mount the switch "right", so when the switch points back, it's on the neck pickup, and vice...
Well lets see SG's and Teles are so far apart it's hard to even be objective.
I will say I believe Teles are the ground zero of electric guitars. They are one of, if not THE palce to start to learn, understand, play or control an electric guitar....
quite possible it has shifted some over the years ... if your fretting-out was on the higher frets, it makes sense to lose the shim. glad it's working out for ya!
