The Sacred Harp is a collection of traditional Appalachian tunes. The harmonies are stark, open, lots of open 4ths and 5ths, yet simultaneously complex. They have an obvious Celtic influence. When I hear this music, I am homesick for a place I've not yet visited. I am a Sacred harp.
