Unknowingly, I have written the diary of Venezuela slow descent into authoritarianism, the slow erosion of our liberties, the takeover of the country by a military caste, the surrendering of our soul to our inner demons.

There is still some stuff to be written to prepare for the election sets of next year. In particular the latest battles between the opposition as to hold primaries or not and the infamous "tarjeta unica". But it is more important to visit in detail...
Two news item from Europe this week tell us that the social future is in Europe and not in Venezuela.
In Paris, former president Jacques Chirac will stand trial on some funky business when he was mayor of Paris. During his 12 years tenure at the...
The agreement signed in Honduras yesterday is conveniently close to Halloween, a weird omen about its effectiveness and who might win the battle in the end. It is not just a matter of disguise as a Venetian Carnival would have been. In Honduras the...
I have long ago stopped economic posts because, well, Miguel and Quico take care of this much better than what I could do. But that I took upon other tasks such as electoral analysis does not stop me from on occasion point out to the essential.

A WSJ editorial FINALLY writes what I wrote almost a week ago, that the judicial coup in Nicaragua was a vindication of what the Micheletti group did in Honduras three months ago. It is not really that I might be smarter than the WSJ, or that blogging...
Daniel manages to relay with superb clarity that which is the Chavez regime. With frequent updates and a good mixture of content this blog is always a good read.
I am not in exile, I´m stuck HERE with 26 Million more !!!! I´m one of the local folks that recurrently visit this blog. What I find more refreshing is the view from the provinces that in our day to day is left behind. There are two or more realities that are ignored from us in the cities and in the fight for surviving this horrendous regime, we simply ignore them many times over.
Top notch ranking for Daniel´s blog and his accute and sharp accumen

I am a Venezuelan practically exiled in the United States driven not only by choice but by the present circumstances in Venezuela. When I discovered Daniel's blog a few years ago, I was impressed not only by his intelligent analysis of important events in Venezuela but also by his prose. His writing has continued to improve. It would not be a stretch to regard Daniel as one of the most authoritative bloggers currently in Venezuela. The fact that he continues to report from inside Venezuela in San Felipe, is a testament to his courage and devotion to our beloved Venezuela. Thank you so much for your work Daniel. I would love to have the opportunity to emulate your work in a not so distant future.
Venezuela News and Views is an example of the blogging medium at its very best. Daniel Duquenal's courageous, street-level reports of what is happening in the Cuba of our generation are deeply insightful and cogent. His hour-by-hour coverage of the Constitutional Referendum in December was some of the most mesmerizing reading I have ever enjoyed. If VNV is not a 10, I can't imagine what a 10 would be.
