CBS has picked up a new comedy based on the ramblings of someone's father from a Twitter account called Shit My Dad Says. The title will likely change when it gets to the small screen. Will & Grace creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick are behind it so it has some legs.

The people have spoken--and they love Vampires! Not surprisingly 'Twilight' snagged the most nominations for the 2010 People's Choice Awards. The ‘Twilight’ franchise stars earn six nods while it's TV counterpart, ‘True Blood’ receives three.
Fans cast more than 18 million votes online to select the nominee slate and will also choose the winners in 35 categories.
Last Friday night 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan took the stage at Carnegie Hall to perform a comedy show entitled Hard Knock Life, as part of the New York Film Festival. The funnyman’s in-your-face delivery ended up offending many.
NY Daily News called Morgan “unspeakably filthy”….so much so that many guests left throughout the duration of the show.
David Letterman's accused extortionist, Robert Halderman, is asking the judge to dismiss the extortion case against him.
In papers filed with the court, Halderman's lawyer wrote, "The sensationalism surrounding this indictment, fueled by the celebrity of the purported victim and the deference paid to that celebrity by the District Attorney's Office, has swallowed the only pertinent issue ...."

We're going to pump the brakes after that headline because there's a lot of rumor manure to sift through. Earlier today Mania reported a big rumor that Black Cat would be the new villain in Spider-Man 4, and that Rachel McAdams (of The Notebook and Wedding Crashers fame) was the frontrunner for the role. However, this seemed to be just another in a long line of ridiculous villain rumors, but then our friends at SlashFilm found a post in The Observer regarding actress/columnist Romola Garai, who revealed she had an audition for a role in Spider-Man 4. But is she auditioning for Black Cat or a supposed new female lead?
Sometimes it’s hard to be a celebrity. November 2009 is one of them. Chances are, stars will, at some point this month, be asked if they’re on Team Edward or Team Jacob. I myself asked The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder to enter the debate recently during a Pop Culture Personality Test interview (so totally legit line of questioning!), and having never read the books or seen the first film, he was unable to choose a side.
Here’s a bit of casting news to start the day. Ray Winstone has jumped onto Red Snow, a “serial killer thriller” in which Winstone will be “an ex-SAS officer tracking down his missing daughter in the snow forests of a remote town in north Canada.” Script and direction are by Stuart St. Paul based on the true story of a killer that targeted Alaskan towns in the ’80s. You don’t know St. Paul’s name, but you know his work; he’s been a stunt guy for over 30 years with credits including Aliens, some of the Roger Moore Bond films and the recent Red Riding productions.
The Box earned $7.9 million -- not a total disaster for a $25 million movie, but not exactly a resume-builder for Kelly to the extent he has commercial ambitions. It was roundly defeated by the rest of the weekend's newcomers, most notably A Christmas Carol, which took first place with $31 million. That may not seem like a lot, but note that Zemeckis's The Polar Express opened to even less on its way to $180 million. I predict that A Christmas Carol, which looks wonderful on IMAX 3-D, will hold up well.

As he looks ahead to November 23, the date on which his debut album is released, Adam Lambert gets excited.
Then, the trepidation sets in.
"I realize no one’s heard the album yet so the pressure is kind of scary," the singer told TV Guide Magazine this week. Fortunately, Lambert guarantees enough diversity on his 14-track disc to please music fans across the board.
Aside from sounding like a man who sucked in a few gallons of helium and possessing the posture of a hunchback cripple, I don't find much to be appalled by in this new Miley Cyrus interview.

The video for Nelly Furtado's second single from her Spanish-language album, Mi Plan, is a restrained, mannered domestic drama. But frankly, I'm finding all this about as plausible as any given Nicolas Cage movie.
Just look at the first scene. Nelly Furtado makes her man some breakfast, and said man can't manage to tear his eyes away from his Twitter updates or his E-Trade account or whatevs. Well... I call you-know-what on this.

February is a month for love, and there is no greater love than a fan's love of Star Trek, so it's appropriate that Atari and Cryptic announce a February release date for Star Trek Online.
Star Trek Online is a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game based in the near future, or at least the near future of the Star Trek universe. Players become high-ranking Starfleet officers, customizing their ships and boldly going many different places, both in space on planet side.
Tom Watson, a member of British Parliament, has developed a sort of folk hero status among European gamers this morning. After his fellow MP, Keith Vaz, promised to decry the violence depicted in Modern Warfare 2 (specifically in that one scene) in the next session of Parliament, Watson publicly defended the game on Facebook and Twitter.
Gran Turismo 5 gets delayed according to Kazunori Yamauchi and says it is due to Marketing Issues. All of this results in Gran Turismo 5 not having an official release date outside of Japan.
The following news might upset you a little or maybe a lot. If you were expecting to be able to have Gran Turismo 5 for Christmas don’t hold your breath because it has been confirmed that the Videogame no longer has an official release date and is being held back.
My name is Marcus “Noken” Johansson and I’m one of the guys working at the DICE Video Crew in Stockholm, Sweden.
We got some really cool stuff to show you from the upcoming Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Beta map, Arica Harbor, but it isn’t just a new trailer. It’s actually something a little different. Usually when we create movies there’s a lot of intense action which is always good, but this time we wanted to try something we haven’t done before.

It's about time! I know 'Twilight' probably wouldn't make the list for Oprah's Book Club, but the series is so popular, it seems only fitting that Stephenie Meyer should appear on 'Oprah'! And now she will, according to a message she posted on her website.
You know I've been doing the hermit thing this last year, in so far as media is concerned, and I'm not changing that now, but I am making an exception.
Lev Grossman’s The Magicians has been billed as “Harry Potter for grown-ups.” However, this is not “Harry Potter and the All-Weekend Kegger Where Things Got a Little Weird.” No. The Magicians provides serious social commentary. It is capital “L” Literature. It just happens to involve a school where young adults learn magic and a mysterious Narnia-like parallel world full of wonder and intrigue. If those ideas seem mutually exclusive to you, this is not the book for you.
Ziba Design helped create the massive exhibition, "China Design Now," which is reaching beyond museum walls and spidering into Portland, Oregon. For the last few weeks, Steve McCallion has reported on how the experience transformed the city.
As I mentioned in previous posts, the Portland Art Museum brought China Design Now, the London Victoria & Albert exhibit, to Portland to attract a new audience and elevate Portland's cultural discourse to a global level. The exhibition documents China's impressive advancement in graphics, fashion and design over the last 20 years.
Each day in November, I will read and review/discuss/whatever one comic taken from a box of some of my childhood comics. Today, it's Transformers #57.
