30 Rock is the brainchild of SNL-alum

When the show first came on in 2006, it was in a sort of competition with another show on the same network that had a similar premise: Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Wile 30 Rock was a comedy, Studio 60 was all about the drama. In the end, audiences chose comedy and Studio 60 was canceled while 30 Rock continues to gain fans and a larger audience. The show has won an Emmy for best comedy and
Tina Fey won one for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. The show is a single camera shot show with no studio audience, which means no laugh track.
