The 2007 film adaptation of 300 is based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller. The film is a historical fantasy retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae, and was directed by Zack Snyder. Miller served as both executive producer and consultant.
To replicate the imagery of the comic book, the movie was shot with a super-imposition chroma key technique. Some of the stars in 300 include,
Gerard Butler, Rodrigo Santoro, Lena Headey, Dominic West, and David Wenham. 300 was released to both IMAX and regular movie theaters on March 9, 2007. The film broke box office records, but critics were divided over its look and style. Some critics claimed it was an original achievement, other critics criticized it for favoring visuals over characterization and its depiction of the ancient Persians.
