Adolf "Adi" Dasler founded Adidas in 1924 after returning from World War I. The name Adidas is a combination of "Adi", Adolf's nickname and "Das" for his family name, Dasler. He was soon joined by his brother, Rudolf "Rudi" Dasler, and both did well in selling sports shoes before World War II. However, the brothers split up in 1948 with Rudi forming Puma and Adi forming Adidas. Adidas currently designs a range of sports shoes for running, football, tennis, golf, cricket and lacrosse. Adidas is a big sponsor of a number of national football, cricket and soccer teams. Their current slogan is "Impossible is Nothing."
