Allen Iverson played his college basketball at
Georgetown University, he played there for two years and both years won the Big East Defensive Player of the Year honor. After two seasons at
Georgetown, Iverson was selected as the first overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1996 NBA Draft. In the 2000-2001 season, Iverson was named the NBA's Most Valuable Player, he also led the NBA in scoring and steals that year. On December 19,2006, after ten years of playing for the 76ers, Iverson was traded to the
Denver Nuggets. Iverson was traded again, on November 3, 2008 to the
Detroit Pistons. Iverson played many years under coach Larry Brown for the 76ers. Iverson ranks third all-time in the NBA in points per game. He has averaged 27.7 points per game in his career, trailing all-time leader Michael Jordan and
Wilt Chamberlain in this category by only 2.4 points per game. Iverson was the 6th fastest in history to score 20,000 points, and is one of only 30 players to do so. Iverson has been a controversial figure his entire career, but there is no denying that he is one of the greatest players of all time to put on an NBA uniform.
