Almay, a cosmetics brand owned by Revlon, was created in 1931 and was named after its founders: Alfred and Fanny May Woititz. Back in the 1930s makeup was heavy and tended to irritate. Fanny May could not wear it so she needed another option. She joined forces with her husband and dermatologist Dr. Marion Sulzberger to create makeup up that Fanny May could use on her sensitive skin everyday.
Almay has been the leader in creating hypoallergenic cosmetics and was the first brand to make 100% fragrance free products. The company was a leader in many creations. Almay was the first to list the ingredients they used in their makeup, the first to create separate skin regimes based on skin type, the first to test for allergy and irritation, and the first to create products for contact lens wearers.
