Alonzo Mourning - NBA Basketball
Alonzo Mourning was selected as the second overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets. Mourning played 15 years in the NBA with the following teams: Charlotte Hornets, Miami Heat, and New Jersey Nets. Mourning played for legendary coach, Pat Riley, when he played for the Miami Heat.
Alonzo Mourning had career averages of 17.1 point and 8.5 rebounds per game. He was selected to seven NBA All Star games and was named the league's All Defensive Player of the Year for two seasons. Mourning helped Team USA capture a gold medal in the 2000 Olympic Games in Australia. Alonzo Mourning retired from the Miami Heat on January 22, 2009. Mourning battled focal segmental glomerular sclerosis which forced him to get a kidney from his estranged cousin, Jason Cooper.
Mourning has been involved in many charitable organizations due to his battle with kidney disease. He is actively involved in the Alonzo Mourning Charities Inc., Zo's Fund for Life, and Athletes for Hope. Alonzo Mourning is happily married with his wife, Tracy, who have one son and one daughter.
