Appaloosa is an American Western based on the 2005 novel by crime writer Robert B. Parker. The movie made its debut at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival and was released in limited engagement on September 19, 2008. The film bears narrative similarities with the 1959 film Warlock, directed by Edward Dmytryk. Warlock starred Henry Fonda, Anthony Quinn, and Richard Widmark.
Appaloosa is Ed Harris’ second movie as director; his first was the 2000 film, Pollock. The film’s budget was set at $20 million and filming took place from October 1, 2007 to November 24, 2007 in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Austin, Texas.
