Avon International was founded in 1886 by David H. McConnell. McConnell sold books door to door and would give samples of perfume to women to entice them to buy. By 1928, sales had reached 2 million and today, sales exceed $8 billion worldwide.
A direct-marketing company, Avon uses door-to-door salesmen (and women) to advertise its products. Avon cosmetics are also available in retail stores nationwide.
