The movie is the only full-length animated feature film to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. Beauty and the Beast ranks at number seven on American Film Institute's list of best animated films. It also ranks at number twenty-two on the list of best musicals and number thirty-four on the list of best romantic American movies. The film was adapted into a Broadway musical which ran from 1994 to 2007. Beauty and the Beast was added to the United States National Film Registry in 2002. That same year saw the film’s re-release in IMAX format. There are plans for a re-release of the film in Disney Digital 3-D in 2010.
