Bernard King started his NBA Career in 1977. He was drafted seventh overall by the
New Jersey Nets. Bernard King was known as one of the most explosive scorers of his era. King had a fantastic career. He poured in more than 19,000 points in his career with various teams: the
New Jersey Nets,
Utah Jazz,
Golden State Warriors,
New York Knicks and
Washington Bullets. Major knee reconstruction surgery costed him two years of his career. As a rookie Bernard led the team in scoring and placed 10th in the NBA with 24 points per game. Before the 1980-81 season began, the Jazz traded King to Golden State foe Wayne Cooper. After the 1981-82 season, King signed as a veteran free agent with the
New York Knicks. King enjoyed his greatest glory while wearing the New York uniform. He almost led The Knicks into a 3-2 first round series win over the
Detroit Pistons As he scored 40 points in four games and 36 in the other. One of King's biggest regrets was not winning a championship ring and not hitting the 20,000-point mark.
