Bill Sharman - NBA Basketball

Bill Sharman image Bill Sharman began his NBA career in 1950. Sharman played high school basketball at Porterville High School and then went onto college at University of Southern California. After college, Sharman spent 5 years playing professional baseball with the Brooklyn Dodgers, from 1950-55. Then he joined the NBA and played with the Boston Celtics, where he became a legend. Arguably the best shooter of his time, Bill Sharman was one of the first guards to shoot over .400 from the field. He was named to the All-Star team numerous times, and awarded the All Star Game MVP in 1955. He retired after the 1961 season, having spent 11 seasons in the NBA.

After retiring as a play, Bill Sharman turned to coaching. As a coach, he led the Utah Stars to the 1970 ABA Champpionship and was co-awarded ABA coach of the year. The following season he led the Lakers to their first championship and was named NBA coach of the year. In 1975, he was enshrined to the NBA Hall of Fame as a player and in 2004 as a coach. Bill Sharman is one of three people inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player and a coach. Sharman is married and has two sons and two daughters.
