Wesley Snipes stars as the vampire hunter Blade in the 1998 action film. Based on the Marvel Comics series, Blade was directed by Stephen Norrington and written by David S. Goyer. Blade was created by writer Marv Wolfman and penciller Gene Colan for the Marvel Comics universe.
Blade first appeared in The Tomb of
Dracula #10 in July, 1973. Blade's alter ego is Eric Brooks. He is the half-vampire protector of humans against vampires. He is a hybrid known as a daywalker. Snipes reprised his role in the sequels Blade II and Blade: Trinity. A success at the box office, Blade ushered in the current superhero revival in American films. Other members in the cast of the original film include, Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson, Udo Kier, and N'Bushe Wright.
