Blaze - Movie Dramas

Blaze image 1989's motion picture Blaze, directed and written by Ron Shelton, was based off of a true story, that of former stripper and burlesque star Blaze Starr, and her relationship with Earl Long, governor of Louisiana in the 1950's. The idea for the film came about after she came out with a 1974 memoir on her life titled: Blaze Starr: My Life as Told to Huey Perry. Like the movie that followed it, the relationship with Long was covered there as well.

Paul Newman starred as Earl Long in the film, while Lolita Davidovich played Ms. Starr, Blaze herself actually held a cameo role in the flick. Actor/comedian Robert Wuhl had a small role in the movie as well.

Blaze was nominated for three awards, the PFS (Political Film Society) award for best Expose, the ASC (American Society of Cinematographers) award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography in Theatrical Releases, and an Oscar for Best Cinematography. Of the three, the ASC award was the only one Blaze claimed.
