Canon Inc. is a multinational corporation headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Specializing in electronics, optics, and well as imaging equipment, they have some of the best-selling cameras and computer printers in the world.
Canon first got its start 1937 as the “Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory.” The name Canon was derived by an alternate spelling of the Bodhisattva “Kwan’on,” a Buddhist incarnation. The company officially became Canon in 1969. Their initial product was Japan’s first 35mm shutter camera. They went on to produce other achievements such as the world’s first camcorder with a zoom lens, the world’s first 10-key calculator, the world’s first camera with an embedded computer, and the development of bubble jet technology for printers among others.
