Founded in 1972, they were originally known as the New England Whalers and the Hartford Whales before settling in North Carolina in 1997. To date, they have won 3 division titles, 2 conference titles, and 1 Stanley Cup. Their home court is the RBC Center the head coach is currently Paul Maurice. The Hurricanes are owned by Peter Karmanos. Minor league affiliates include the Albany River Rats and the Florida Everblades.
