Christian Bale is an English actor who began his career as a child appearing in such films as Empire of the Sun, Treasure Island, Newsies, Swing Kids, and Little Women.
His career was resurrected in 2000 after appearing in the cult hit American Psycho. Since then, he has appeared in such films as Shaft, Equilibrium, Reign of Fire, Laurel Canyon, The Machinist,
Batman Begins, The New World, The Prestige, Harsh Times,
Rescue Dawn, I’m Not There, 3:10 to Yuma,
The Dark Knight, and
Terminator Salvation. He is known for his intensity and his commitment to his roles. For the film The Machinist, he lost 60 lbs in only a few months.
In 2004, he join the ranks of the few to don the costume of the caped crusader. He appeared in both of the Christopher Nolan Batmans,
Batman Begins and the hugely successful
The Dark Knight. His portrayal of
the Dark Knight has been criticized for the ridiculously deep growl he chose to speak in, but in spite of this, the films have been a success, reinvigorating a dormant franchise.
