Civilization - Gaming
A series of turn-based computer strategy games that are considered computer gaming classics. Civ gives players total control over a young nation starting with a small group of settlers and eventually guiding it to the heights of power and prestige. As of 2008, the Civilization series has sold over 8 million copies.
The original Civilization was published in 1991 and designed by Sid Meier. Although the concept was simple, the game was known for being highly addictive as players spent countless hours fine-tuning their civilizations. Game play involved not only micro-managing the various aspects of your cities’ economies, but also political alliances with other competing civs, deciding your government type, and also where to focus your technological research. If war broke out, you may find yourself fighting modern tanks with only swords because you didn’t bother to discover gunpowder. If your enemies fail to beat you on the battlefield, your own people may end up revolting against you because of a lack of luxury goods. Ultimately there are many ways to “win” the game. You could either conquer the world, be the first nation to colonize another planet, or even just be the first country to build the United Nations. Civ could satisfy almost any ruler’s impulse whether they were a bloody conquerer, or an audacious explorer.
Civ IV is currently the latest release in the Civilization franchise.
