Dragon Quest - Gaming

Known as Dragon Warrior in North America, Dragon Quest is a famous long-lived role-playing game that had its start on the old MSX computer system. From there, it graduated to the Nintendo/Famicom, then the Super NES, Playstation, and a host of other gaming systems. The series features common RPG elements that adhere to the Dragon Quest theme. The player starts by walking into a town to purchase weapons, armor, and any other useful items. Outside of town, the player(or party) become vulnerable to random attacks by monsters. A monster battle brings up a menu showing possible commands. If the player chooses to fight and not run, a choice of weapons, magic, or items can be employed. Defeating the monster yields experience points and possibly advancing the player’s level. A level upgrade results in an increase in the player’s stats. End game content often involves taking on powerful dragons that require a mix of strategy and appropriate equipment to defeat. This style of gameplay common to RPGs has created a huge loyal following of fans who eagerly line up for the next published installment in the series. Dragon Quest is considered one of the most popular video game franchises in Japan rivaling Final Fantasy in copies sold.
