Ellen Pompeo (born November 10, 1969) is an actress best known for playing Dr. Meredith Grey on ABC's hit medical drama, Grey's Anatomy. Working as a bartender in 1996, Pompeo was discovered by an agent and appeared in several television commercials followed by minor roles on Strangers with Candy and Law & Order.
Pompeo has appeared in several popular films including
Moonlight Mile, Old School and Catch Me If You Can. In 2007, she was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her role on Grey's Anatomy.
Pompeo married record producer Chris Ivery in 2007. The couple live in Los Angeles.
