First Do No Harm (1997) was the made-for-TV movie written by Ann Beckett, and starred Meryl Streep, Allison Janney, Seth Adkins and Fred Ward. When a mother learns her son has epilepsy, she trusts the hospital and doctors to act in his best interest, but when his health slips radically, she becomes her own research expert. The movie documents her struggle to find alternative treatments, and the legal battles with hospital staff she endures. In the end, her son recovers by the discovery of the Ketogenic Diet, and several of the minor characters are portrayed by people who have been cured by it as well.
