Footloose is a teen dance drama which was released in 1984. It was directed by Herbert Ross and written by Dean Pitchford. The film starred Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, Dianne Wiest and John Lithgow. The plot of this film revolves around a city boy named Ren who moves to a small town community where dancing and rock and roll have been prohibited. Ren and his new friends look to find a way to fight the ban and make their high-school prom a fun time. The film received mixed reviews from critics, but was a box office success, grossing $80 million in the US. The soundtrack for the film was also a huge success. The title song "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins, hit #1 on Billboard, and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
