Martin Scorsese directed the 1990 crime drama film Goodfellas. The movie is based on the non-fiction book Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi who co-wrote the screenplay with Scorsese. Goodfellas follows the rise and fall of three gangsters over a period of thirty years. The three gangsters are portrayed by Ray Liotta, Rober De Niro, and Joe Pesci. Other actors in the film include, Lorraince Bracco and Paul Sorvino.
The movie was released in September, 1990 to mostly positive reviews. Goodfellas was nominated for six Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Picture, Best Director, Best Film Editing, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Jose Pesci won for Best Supporting Actor; the only Academy Award won. Additionally, Goodfellas was nominated for five Golden Globes but failed win any. The New York Film Critics Circle voted Goodfellas the Best Film of 1990. The Los Angeles Film Critics Association voted Scorsese as Best Dirctor, and Goodfellas as Best Film.
