Director Stephen Fears explores what makes someone heroic in 1992's "Hero". Dustin Hoffman stars as a not-so-nice thief who rescues passengers after a plane crash but flees the scene leaving nice guy homeless Vet Andy Garcia to be mistakenly declared, by TV reporter Geena Davis, as the hero.
The screenplay was written by Laura Ziskin, Alvin Sargent and David Webb Peoples. Produced by Laura Ziskin, the film was not a financial success, earning only $19.4 million in domestic box office with a production budget of $42 million. Mariah Carey's song "Hero" was written for this film but was not used.
