Johnny Depp - Actors & Celebrities

Johnny Depp image Johnny Depp is one of the world’s most famous and successful actors. He is known for his off-beat, original characters in challenging roles.

He got his start in movies like Nightmare on Elm Street and Platoon, but became a major star after landing a leading role in the television program 21 Jump Street. The show garnered him much fame and a legion of young (mostly female) fans. Depp was unprepared for the role of teen heart throb and the responsibilities that were pushed on him as a result. Depp felt he was manipulated during this time, and he has dedicated much of his career to living down that part of his life, favoring complete control over his career decisions since.

He has gone on to star in such off-beat films as Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Sleepy Hollow, Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Sweeney Todd. He has worked with visionary director Tim Burton on multiple films including Edward Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Recently he has dazzled audiences with his bizarre and original pirate character Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

Depp also became good friends with gonzo writer Hunter S. Thompson after portraying him in the drug-riddled, psychedelic film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, based on the Hunter S. Thompson book of the same name. Following Thompson’s death in 2005, it was Depp who fulfilled Thompson’s burial wishes of firing his ashes from a cannon to the Bob Dylan song “Mr. Tambourine Man” in a private ceremony at his home in Colorado.
