John Stewart is a famous American actor, comedian, and television personality who is probably best known for his work as the host of the political satire show
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. In the late 80s and early 90s, he became known as a stand up comedian, befriending other top comedian in the business such as
Adam Sandler.
In 1993, he went on to have his own show on MTV which was called The Jon Stewart Show. The show followed a talk show format, and it would serve as good practice for when he later went on to replace Craig Kilborn as the host of Comedy Central’s
The Daily Show in 1999. When Stewart started on the show, the show was successful for a cable television program.
By the early 2000s Stewart had made it into one of the biggest shows on television, even spawning an equally successful spin-off The Colbert Report, starring friend and fellow comedian
Stephen Colbert.
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart also went on to launch the careers of the highly successful
Steve Carell, Matt Walsh, Ed Helms, and Rob Corddry. The show’s huge rise in popularity was due in large to its satirical challenge to the political climate of the 2000s, namely the Bush presidency and the war in Iraq.
Stewart has also appeared in many films, which by his own admission have been failures. Some of these films include Half Baked, Mixed Nuts, The Faculty,
Big Daddy, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Death to Smoochy, Doogal,
Wordplay, and Evan Almighty.
