JVC - Consumer Electronics

JVC image JVC, originally known as the Victor Company of Japan, is a multinational corporation headquartered in Yokohama, Japan. They are a designer and manufacturer of consumer as well as professional electronics. JVC was originally founded in 1927 as a subsidiary of American phonograph company Victor Talking Machine Company. The Second World War severed the ties between the two entities and JVC has since been owned by Matsushita.

JVC is known for a series of historical firsts including creating Japan’s first television set, developing the VHS format, and introducing the first VHS recorders to the market.

Matsushita has as of October 2008 sold its stake in JVC to Kenwood.
