Lilly Pulitzer was bored one day and opened up an orange juice stand. She didn't have to because Lilly cam from a very wealthy family. While working the orange juice stand she found that it was quite messy and she would often get stains on her dresses. She asked her dressmaker to design a dress that was sleveless and made of bright, colorful print colors. She loved the dress that was especially designed for and found that all her customers loved the dress too. So Lilly had her dress maker make more and began selling them at her orange juice stand. Eventually she stopped selling juices and started selling dresses.
Her dresses were very popular and thrived throughout the 1960s, 70s and 80s. But in 1984, she retired and closed down her shop to spend time with her family. In the early 1990s the company was revived and although Lilly Pulitzer is not involved in the daily running of the clothing line, she does sit as a creative consultant and approves designs and such.
