Mario Kart is a series of go-kart racing games developed by Nintendo starring the cast of the
Mario bros. games. Players take their pick of their favorite characters and proceed to race away on a stylish cartoon-like track full of rewards and pitfalls. In contrast to most racing games,
Mario Kart features power-ups that can enhance your vehicle as well as provide you with an array of weaponry to use against your rivals. Most of the power-ups are taken straight from the
Mario games such as the invincibility star, magic mushrooms that can give you a burst of
speed, or even turtle shells to shoot at your opponent to spin them out of control. If you can’t down your opponents with
speed, you can always drop banana peels in their path. This sometimes humorous and loony style of game play have made the
Mario Kart series extremely appealing, especially with casual or female gamers. The multiplayer features have also made
Mario Kart popular at parties or other social gatherings letting people duke it out on the track.
Mario Kart was originally released for the Super Nintendo in 1992. Since then, numerous sequels have spawned on both portable and regular console systems.
