Max Factor & Company is an international cosmetics company founded in 1909 by Polish makeup artist Maximilian Faktorowicz. His shortened name became synonymous with Hollywood glamour in the "golden years," or the 1920s and 1930s. Many famous hollywood starlets of the time were fans of Max Factor, including Jean Harlowe, Bette Davis, and Judy Garland.
Factor created the first makeup made specifically for film, a greasepaint available in 12 different shades. Following the foundation were nail polish, lip gloss, and PanCake, an early cake makeup.
In 1991, Max Factor & Company was purchased by Proctor & Gamble. Max Factor cosmetics, skin care products and fragrances can be purchased in convenience stores and drugstores nationwide.
