The RX-8 is a sports car built by Japanese automaker Mazda. First introduced in 2001 at the North American International Auto Show, it is considered the successor to the RX-7. Like other vehicles in the RX line, the RX-8 utilizes a rotary engine. Because of the car’s rather unconventional design in contrast to regular internal combustion engines, the RX-8 is seen as more of an enthusiast car. Specially trained mechanics are needed if the car requires extensive maintenance.
As of 2006, the RX-8 has won nearly 40 international automobile awards due to its praise by critics and the public alike.
