Michael Myers is the main character of the Halloween film series. He was created by Debra Hill and John Carpenter. Michael Myers first appeared in the 1978 film, Halloween, and has appeared in all the sequels except Halloween III: Season of the Witch. Michael Myers has also appeared in novels, a video game, and comic books.
The mask Myers wears is based on a William Shatner Halloween mask. The character takes his name from distributor Mike Myers. Myers worked with Debra Hill and John Carpenter on Assault on Precinct 13. Myers helped promote Assault on Precinct 13 which in turn promoted John Carpenter. Carpenter wanted to repay the favor so he created a character and named him Michael Myers. Another inspiration for the character is the robot portrayed by Yul Brynner in the movie Westworld. The men behind
the mask in the initial portrayal of Michael Myers were Tony Moran and Nick Castle. Castle was a former roommate of Carpenter at the University of Southern California.
