Mickey Mouse - Animated TV

Mickey Mouse image Mickey Mouse was created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks in 1928. Mickey Mouse first appeared in the film Steamboat Willie in 1928. Mickey Mouse is an icon in popular culture. His date of birth is given as November 18, 1928. Mickey Mouse has appeared in film, television, and comics. Another character introduced in 1928 is Minerva (Minnie) Mouse.

Mickey Mouse was created to replace Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Oswald had been created by the Disney studio for Charles Mintz of Universal Studios. Disney asked Ub Iwerks to create a new character. Iwerks drew sketches of dogs, cats, and other animals, but none of them pleased Walt Disney. Disney was inspired by a pet mouse he had as a child on his farm. Hugh Harman drew sketches of mice into a photograph of Walt Disney. The sketches inspired Iwerks to create a new mouse called Mortimer Mouse. Disney's wife, Lillian, convinced him to change the name to Mickey. This is how Mickey Mouse came to be.
