Masashi Kishimoto created the manga character Naruto Uzumaki in 1997. Naruto is an adolescent ninja who wants to be a Hokage, the leader in his village. Naruto premiered in an anime adaptation in Japan on October 3, 2002. Naruto has also been features in movies, young adult novels, video games, and trading cards. Viz Media brought Naruto to the U.S. The Naruto anime appeared on the Cartoon Network.

Naruto Uzumaki is a boy with the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox sealed inside. Twelve years earlier the fox attacked the ninja village Konohagakure. The leader of Konohagakure sacrified his own life to seal the demon inside Naruta when he was a newborn. The main story consists of Naruto, his friends, and their personal growth and development as ninja. Their interactions with each other, and the influence of their backgrounds are also explored.
