Pentax is a corporation based in Tokyo Japan that manufactures cameras and various other optical and imaging equipment. Originally founded in 1919, it is now a subsidiary of Hoya Corporation as of 2008. Pentax technologies include digital cameras, precision optics, endoscope, surgical loupes, biocompatible ceramics, among others.
Hoya Corporation recently acquired Pentax in hopes it would strengthen its medical technologies business. After some controversy regarding layoffs, stock trades, and the resignation of the Pentax CEO, the merger was completed.
