
Rachel McAdams is a Canadian actress and rising star who has starred in numerous Hollywood films including
Mean Girls,
The Notebook, The Hot Chick, The
Wedding Crashers, The Family Stone, and Red Eye.
As a child she got into figure skating and acting. She toured around Canada in theater productions for most of her teen years. She worked on smaller unsuccessful films including The Hot Chick, in which she shared the title role with actor/comedian Rob Schneider, and she was largely unknown before she broke through playing the second lead in the film
Mean Girls alongside actress
Lindsay Lohan. McAdams said she was influenced by Alec Baldwin’s role in the movie Glengarry Glen Ross for her role as the queen bee in
Mean Girls.
From there she went on to star in the romantic film
The Notebook alongside
Ryan Gosling. Gosling and McAdams had a short-lived, off-screen romance that ended in 2007.
She has turned down numerous big budget films, including The Last Kiss,
Iron Man,
The Dark Knight,
Casino Royale, and The
Fantastic Four, in order to take time off and pursue projects of her choice. Currently, she is set to star in Guy Ritchie’s
Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. and
Jude Law.
