
Robert Balboa, better known as Rocky Balboa, is a fictional boxer who first appeared in the movie Rocky in 1976. Rocky Balboa was created by Sylvester Stallone who also portrays Balboa in all the films in the series. The first film was directed by John G. Avildsen with a screenplay written by Sylvester Stallone. The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards, and won for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Screenplay.
Rocky was followed by the sequels Rocky II (1979),
Rocky III (1982),
Rocky IV (1985), Rocky V (1990), and Rocky Balboa (2006). Rocky is the story of an underdog who gets a chance to make it big. His is the story of the little guy who gets one lucky break. Rocky was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2006. Rocky's nickname in the film franchise is The Italian Stallion. According to the storyline in the film series, Rocky's date of birth is July 6, 1945. Some of the other characters who appear in the film series are: his wife, Adrian Pennino; Adrian's brother, Paulie; his trainer, Mickey Goldmill; and his first opponent, Apollo Creed.
