Rosanne was a sitcom that aired on ABC from 1988 to 1997. The show focused on a working-class dysfunctional family struggling financially and dealing with raising three kids.
The show gained praise for its portrayal of a working-class family and for dealing with "taboo" subjects other shows would not or had not dealt with. Those subjects included: drug abuse, teen sex and pregnancy, abortion, homosexuality and domestic violence. It also broke new ground by having a female being the dominate partner and breaking the sitcom stereotype of the "perfect skinny mom" that dominated the airways.
The show was a critical and ratings success for most of its run. However, towards the end of its runs, the show fell away from the original premise and the storylines became somewhat ridiculous, such as having the family become millionaires by winning the lottery.
