Ryan Gosling is a Canadian actor who is famous for his roles in
The Notebook, Half Nelson, and Lars and the Real Girl. Before his film success he was a child actor appearing on the
Mickey Mouse Club alongside
Britney Spears,
Justin Timberlake, and
Christina Aguilera. Gosling’s other credits include
Remember the Titans, Murder by Numbers, Stay, Fracture, and the United States of Leland.
Gosling grew up in Canada, where he lived with his parents, both of the Mormon faith. His parents divorced when he was young, and he had a turbulent childhood that included getting into fights and frequent changing of schools. Gosling dropped out of school at the age of seventeen and moved to Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, he met and was given a place to stay by director Ron Oliver. Oliver went on to cast Gosling in his Goosebumps and Breaker High projects.
Gosling gained a great deal of praise after he starred in the feature The Believer, which went on to win at Sundance. But it was his role in the movie
The Notebook that catapulted him to Hollywood stardom. The film, about a tender
love story, was a huge hit, and he became increasingly popular, especially amongst the female fans. He was even named to People Magazine’s 50 Hottest Bachelors list.
Since then, he has been connected to leading ladies (and co-stars) such as
Sandra Bullock and
Rachel McAdams.
