
Salma Hayek (born September 2, 1966) is an actress, director, singer, and producer of television and film. Born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico, Hayek got her start as the title character in Teresa, a successful telenovela that made her famous throughout Mexico. Hayek moved to Los Angeles in 1991 to pursue a film career and a few years later, landed a role in Desperado alongside Antonio Banderas.
Hayek has appeared in many films since, including the
Spy Kids trilogy, Fools Rush In, From Dusk Till Dawn, Wild Wild West, Traffic, and Frida, which she co-produced through her production company, Ventanarosa. Hayek has also broken into television as a guest star and executive producer of the hit ABC series
Ugly Betty.
In September of 2007, Hayek gave birth to a daughter, Valentina fathered by PPR CEO Francois-Henri Pinault. The two ended their engagement in July of 2008.
