
Samsung, the parent company of the Samsung Group, is a multinational conglomerate based in South Korea and among one of the largest companies in the world. Founded in 1938, it carries numerous distinctions: the world’s largest conglomerate by revenue, South Korea’s largest chaebol, and the world’s largest electronics company, a spot Samsung took over from
Sony in 2005. Combined, the group forms an important part of the South Korean economy and is a huge player in the global electronics industry.
Although Samsung is primarily known for its consumer electronics which include mobile phones, dvd players, and televisions, its business is diversified into various other fields such as finance, retail, chemical, construction, semiconductors, automobiles and even entertainment. Their total revenue for 2007 equaled $174.2 billion.
