Firefly gained new life in the 2005 space western film Serenity. Josh Whedon directed and wrote the movie’s screenplay. The events in the movie take place two months after the events in the final episode.
Serenity is a rare example of a short-lived television show continuing as a major motion picture. The movie’s actors include, Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, Ron Glass, and David Krumholtz. The movie won the Nebula Award for Best Script in 2005. Serenity also won the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form, and the Prometheus Special Award in 2006.
