S. D. Robert Plissken, also known as Snake Plissken, is a fictional character who first appeared in Escape from New York (1981). He also appeared in the sequel, Escape from L.A (1996). Both films were directed by the creator of Snake Plissken, John Carpenter.
Snake Plissken was inspired by the Man with No Name from Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy featuring Clint Eastwood. Actor Kurt Russel portrays Snake Plissken in both films. There were plans to make a second sequel titled Escape from Earth, but plans for it were scrapped due to the warm reaction to Escape from L.A. Snake Plissken has also appeared in comics. Snake Plissken is a former U.S. Army Lieutenant who served under Special Forces Unit Black Light. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and was the youngest soldier decorated by the U.S. President for bravery during World War III against the USSR. Later, he turns to a life of crime due to a perceived betrayal by the United States government.
